Chemnitz is currently on forest fire danger level 3, with the risk set to rise to level 4 by the middle of the week. The City of Chemnitz’s Parks and Green Spaces Department therefore advises that barbecuing is currently prohibited, even in the designated barbecue areas within public green spaces.
This is also stipulated in the City of Chemnitz’s Parks and Green Spaces Regulations: “In all public green spaces as defined by these regulations, users are specifically prohibited from barbecuing, even in authorised barbecue areas, once the forest fire danger level reaches level 3.”
Furthermore, the Parks Department urges everyone visiting green spaces, parks and woods at this time to refrain from any use of fire or heat sources and to use only the main paths for walks or hikes. Even a small spark can trigger an uncontrolled fire and have devastating consequences.
As well as refraining from open fires – which also includes the use of lighters, matches, candles or lit cigarettes – no rubbish should be left lying around, as this can significantly increase the risk of a fire breaking out.
With the high temperatures and persistent dry conditions, the risk of wildfires and forest fires is rising significantly.
