Last Saturday, the second artwork from the ‘Ortskundig’ project was unveiled on the installation site beneath the viaduct over Annaberger
Street: the artwork ‘Treib Gut Rettungsring’ by Christoph Roßner.
The sculpture consists of 22 metal arches made of stainless steel tubing, which are attached to the base as cut circular arcs. Around 165 oak planks
are screwed to the metal arches from both the inside and outside. The installation is illuminated at night to create lighting effects, reflections and plays of light and shadow in
darkness.
As part of the Chemnitz Artists’ Association’s project, the artists had the idea of involving the public in the creative process from the very beginning
, as art in public spaces should also be experienced and appreciated by the community. The first artwork to be unveiled was the six-metre-high stainless steel sculpture ‘Yesterday is today will be tomorrow’ by Ronald Münch, on the forecourt of the Hartmannfabrik.
The third artwork will be erected at the Chemnitztal Cycle Route rest area.
The cost of the three artworks, including installation, amounts to 300,000 euros.
