Christmas greetings from the Lord Mayor

Christmas speech by the Lord Mayor Sven Schulze

Dear people of Chemnitz,

Every year, Christmas invites us to pause for a moment. Amidst the festive lights and encounters with our loved ones, we realise how valuable peace, closeness and community are. And we look back on a year that has moved and shaped us.

2025 was an extraordinary year for our city - a year that we shaped and experienced together as the European Capital of Culture. A year that we made special through our actions. It was filled with ideas, courage and unforgettable moments. Everywhere in Chemnitz, people came together, projects, experiences and culture were created that shone far beyond our city.

I would like to thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You - the citizens of this city - have brought Chemnitz to life with your creativity, your commitment and your openness. You have shown what we can achieve when we stand together and present our Chemnitz to the outside world with pride and warmth.

The Christmas season reminds us of the importance of solidarity, compassion and mutual support. It gives us confidence for what lies ahead. Let us continue to be guided by this spirit - even beyond the festive season.

I wish you and your families a peaceful, happy and reflective Christmas. May these days give you strength, awaken new hope and make the joy of togetherness tangible. Let us enter the New Year together with confidence and ensure that Chemnitz remains a place where community, heart and solidarity are at home.

With warmest regards and best wishes for the coming year

Your Lord Mayor
Sven Schulze
