Funded small cultural projects in Chemnitz: Pixel/Pigment

Open studio for the Pixel/Pigment project

The project pursued a joint cross-generational exploration of various traditional intaglio printing techniques. With the aim of integrating printmaking as a versatile creative format into contemporary discourses, the artist Donna Volta Newmen worked together with the Chemnitz painter and graphic artist Thomas Merkel on possibilities for the transdisciplinary application of specific printing practices.

In a shared working process lasting several weeks, the conventional tools and materials of etching encountered both the painterly characteristics of monotype printing and some of the digital image editing processes of video editing.

New and old works were made accessible to the public as part of an open studio on 30 October 2022. Visitors were able to familiarise themselves with the artists' various printing techniques and working methods in the intaglio printing workshop.
