Funded small cultural promotion projects in Chemnitz: Kulturgarten

Cultural garden

On 11 September 2022, the "Kulturgarten" project, which was born out of the fixed idea of being able to offer something to the constantly interested glances of passers-by, invited everyone to come, stay and listen.

According to Elias Schmidt, the initiator of the "Kulturgarten", the idea of organising an event in your own garden is not fundamentally new. But the location of the garden, directly on the cycle path in Chemnitz-Schönau, made the idea of organising a kind of street music festival particularly special. It was important to the organiser that access was low-threshold. This prompted a number of Chemnitz residents from Schönau to drop by despite the less than ideal weather conditions and meet up with their neighbours or previously unknown people from their neighbourhood over music and drinks.

Numerous DJs and musicians played in the Hanggarten on this day. For example, Loja Kotesa, a singer/songwriter from Chemnitz, who has already enchanted audiences at events such as the "Mit Sinnen Festival". The Chemnitz DJ "Ka8laschnikow" entertained the strollers from 11.00 a.m. with an exquisite selection of records. The highlight of the day was the four-piece combo "4 im Weckla", who got everyone dancing again with a likeable selection of cover songs and ensured fun and good weather.

In addition to the musical and artistic programme, people also chatted to each other about sustainable garden culture, self-sufficiency and cultural life in the district. Visitors were even able to take a few new ideas and sustainability approaches home with them.

The event was supported by the City of Chemnitz's small project funding programme.
