Funded small cultural promotion projects in Chemnitz: Soziale Rehabilitierung für Ausländer e. V.

Lives of famous composers

On 6 September 2022 from 14:00 to 18:00, the project "Lives of famous composers" was presented to the public. The event took place in the hall of the Jewish community of Chemnitz named after Siegmund Rotstein. The concert was attended by residents of the city of Chemnitz with a migration background, locals and many new refugees from Ukraine. A total of 80 guests attended.

The event was dedicated to the life and work of three outstanding composers of their time:

Jan Frenkel - a composer, singer, violinist, guitarist, pianist and actor,

Mark Fradkin - a composer, author of many popular songs and music for films in the mid-twentieth century and

Oskar Felzman - a composer and pianist.

First, a story was told about the work of the three composers. The performance was accompanied by musical works by Frenkel, Fradkin and Felzman. The concert included songs and musical works performed live. Those in attendance were able to experience live vocals, violin, accordion, piano, saxophone, synthesiser and guitar.

The highlight of the event was the performance of the singers, who sang songs in German, Italian, Ukrainian, Russian and English. The audience was very enthusiastic. They rewarded the singers with long-lasting applause.

After the concert, there was an opportunity to socialise over coffee and cake. This gave the musicians the chance to talk to their audience about the works.

The association "Soziale Rehabilitierung für Ausländer e. V." has been in existence for over 15 years and has set itself the goal of offering all-encompassing help for people in Chemnitz, especially those with a migration background and people with disabilities. They also support self-help groups.

The association would like to continue the event format in the future.
