Sponsored small projects of cultural promotion in Chemnitz: Helmut Oehring - Matinee on the work of the composer

In cooperation with the Städtische Musikschule Chemnitz, Gerichtsstraße 1, a matinee entitled "House Burning Down" took place in the concert hall there on 12 June 2022 from
11.00 a.m. a matinee entitled "House Burning Down" with the internationally award-winning composer, guitarist and director Helmut Oehring. Born in Berlin in 1961, the artist was barred from studying as a NVA conscientious objector, but was a master student of Georg Katzer at the Berlin Academy of Arts from 1990 to 1992.

Oehring was honoured with appointments as a member of the Academies of Arts in Berlin and Saxony as well as the Academy of German Music Authors. In 2015 he received the German Music Authors' Prize. In 2020/21 he was an Excellence Fellow at the Villa Aurora in Los Angeles. His latest works include the dance music film "BEETHOVEN? Der erlösende Fehler" (release 9/2021) and the dance requiem "EURYDIKE? vol. 2" (premiere 2/2022 in Hellerau).

With the participation of soprano Katharina Kunze and the "Ensemble 01", songs and the world premiere of the 3rd string quartet were performed. The artist also read from his 2011 autobiography "Mit anderen Augen. From child of deaf parents to composer", which he produced as a radio play for SWR in 2015. In addition, he talked to Andreas Winkler about his life and work using video documents.


One of the Chemnitz Musikverein's aims is to give interested listeners, especially young people, access to modern music and familiarise them with new compositional styles. The 25 visitors experienced an interesting and emotional event and expressed their gratitude with prolonged applause.
