Short description:

The Kultur- und Heimatverein e. V. was founded on 4 June 2002 in preparation for the 750th anniversary of Wittgensdorf. According to §2, point 02 of the statutes, the "purpose of the association is the active preservation of local history (preservation of the local chronicle, local history) as well as the constant promotion of a diverse cultural life in the Chemnitz district of Wittgensdorf".

As a non-profit association, it endeavours to maintain local traditions in the district and enrich cultural life. The work of the association can be divided into three main areas:

  1. The heritage centre in the former town hall is dedicated to preserving tradition and history. With a permanent exhibition of historical documents and artefacts, as well as special exhibitions that change according to the occasion, it is committed to the active preservation of local history.
    1.1 The local chronicler contributes to the "Rundschau Wittgensdorf" (published six times a year) with his own articles or those written by guest authors on a wide range of topics relating to the history of the village. Almost 40 articles have been published since 2013.
  2. The organisation and implementation of the event series "Great art in a small town" is the pillar of the work in shaping cultural life in Wittgensdorf. Since 12 November 2005 (episode 101), episode 127 has now been reached with 2 episodes per year in 2019.
  3. Monthly events organised by the association in the form of visits to historical sites, lectures on topics of interest, joint hiking days and social gatherings of association members represent the third part of the association's work. The members always endeavour to maintain and improve cooperation with the associations in our village and with local history associations in the surrounding villages.

Offers:

  • Organisation and implementation of the public event "Great art in a small town" (twice a year)
  • Public lectures on local history topics
  • Joint projects with e.g. the Rainbow House, the parish, etc.
  • Opening of the "Heimatstube" in the former town hall on the 1st Sunday of the month and as required for individual bookings (class reunions, family celebrations, etc.)
  • Organisation of special exhibitions on specific themes and anniversaries.
  • Organisation and supervision of a craft street for children at the annual Christmas market
  • Hikes and walks around the village with interested citizens and local associations (planned)
  • Visits and return visits to events with local heritage organisations from the surrounding villages
