Redesign of Rosenplatz on Bernsdorfer Straße
The redesign of the Rosenplatz green space on Bernsdorfer Straße begins this week. The project should be completed by the end of November 2019. Remaining landscaping work will be completed by 30 April 2020. The newly created vegetation areas will be maintained by the contractor until 30 October 2021.
The total costs amount to approx. 400,000 euros. Two-thirds of the measure is subsidised by the federal government and the Free State of Saxony in the Urban Redevelopment East funding area.
A new facility with various play areas is being created in the centre of the square. In addition, the existing paths will be reconstructed as a water-bound (unsealed) path surface. The existing trees and shrubs will be preserved as far as possible. For the time being, no tree felling is planned, only pruning or clearing work on shrubs is required in some areas of the existing path edges in order to create the path widths. The partially critical condition of nine trees across the entire square will be assessed again in the autumn. A new decision will then be made on whether to retain or fell them. 20 new shrubs will be planted and the lawns will be restored along the newly created path edges.
The remaining, worn-out play equipment will be dismantled and the benches and wastepaper bins that can still be used will be removed to the building yard. Once the construction work has been completed, eight refurbished benches and four litter bins will be reinstalled.
A new playground with three play areas will form the centrepiece of the redesigned area. The play theme is "Garden of the Rose" with motifs from "The Little Prince". The services for the design and organisation of the play equipment have already been determined in a competition and awarded to Zimmer.Obst GmbH.
The play equipment is mainly made of oak wood. The metal parts are made of stainless steel.
There will be a large play area with equipment combinations and fall protection gravel and a toddler play area with play sand. The area will also be equipped with a nest swing with a seamless fall protection surface made of rubber granulate, which enables barrier-free use.
The new facility was planned by Chemnitz-based company C&E Consulting und Engineering GmbH, which has also been commissioned to supervise the construction work. The landscaping work was awarded to Schmidt-Bau from Augustusburg following a public tender.
