Outdoor pool season extended again: Gablenz outdoor pool remains open until 9 September

Swimming pools "Am Südring" and Gablenz reopen from 3 September

Good news for swimmers who would like to enjoy the summer sunshine forecast for the first week of September in an outdoor pool: With the prospect of summery bathing weather and the corresponding temperatures, the city of Chemnitz is once again extending the outdoor pool season: open until 9 September inclusive (and thus beyond the originally planned date of 2 September). Bathers can continue to visit the Gablenz open-air pool daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. when the weather permits.
The Rabenstein reservoir will also remain open throughout September (contact: Eissport und Freizeit GmbH Chemnitz). The official end of the season here is the traditional kite festival on 14 October 2012 - and if the bathing weather continues until then, bathers are still welcome to visit the facility - current information can be found online here: www.stausee-rabenstein.de.

As previously announced, the season at the Einsiedel, Bernsdorf and Wittgensdorf outdoor pools will end on Monday, 3 September (PM 473 from 17.08.2012 - www.chemnitz.de ).

Up to 19 August 2012, a total of 61,370 bathers were counted in the municipal outdoor pools in Gablenz, Wittgensdorf, Bernsdorf and Einsiedel. The total number of bathers who visited the four outdoor pools during the 2012 outdoor pool season will be announced in a press release at the end of the outdoor pool season.

The following up-to-date information is available for bathers who would like to visit one of Chemnitz's indoor swimming pools
With the start of the new school year, the "Am Südring" and Gablenz indoor swimming pools will also reopen on Monday, 3 September and will be open to the public during the current operating hours(www.chemnitz.de). The municipal swimming pool must remain closed until completion of the technical measures that are still to be realised, probably until the end of September. Information about the necessary work will be provided in good time in a press release in connection with the reopening.

In the "Am Südring" indoor swimming pool , all prescribed maintenance and inspections of the technical systems (electrical systems, lighting and equipment, water treatment and dosing systems) were carried out on a regular basis during the summer closure period.and equipment, water treatment and dosing technology) as well as the basic cleaning and disinfection work in the bathers' areas, which was also carried out during this time. Work was also carried out: Renovation work on tile and expansion joints, water changes in the swimming and bathing pool, disinfection of the filter by a specialist company and painting work.

In the Gablenz indoor swimming pool , all of the prescribed maintenance and inspections of the technical systems (electrical systems, lighting and equipment, water treatment and dosing technology) were also carried out during the summer closure period, as was the thorough cleaning and disinfection work in the visitor areas in this facility.
The sanitary facilities at SH Gablenz were also completely refurbished during the summer closure period, i.e. the sanitary ceramics and partition walls were renewed, new wall and floor tiles were laid, the pipework was renewed, the mixer taps were repaired and the ventilation covers were replaced. The 170 cloakroom lockers in the Gablenz SH were also replaced, which - like the sanitary areas mentioned - dated back to 1984, when the Gablenz swimming pool hall was opened.
The city invested a total of 110,000 euros in the sanitary facilities and the replacement of the cloakroom lockers at SH Gablenz.

With the replacement of the lockers, it will no longer be necessary to pay a 5 euro key deposit when the swimming pool hall reopens. In future, only a 2-euro coin will be required to lock the lockers: The coin must be inserted on the inside of the locker. At the end of the visit to the pool, the 2-euro coin will be returned to the visitor when the locker is unlocked.

During the summer closure of the indoor swimming pools, necessary work was carried out in the Gablenz and "Am Südring" indoor swimming pools, while the Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool was closed. The Bernsdorf indoor swimming pool continued to operate continuously; this facility will then be closed as planned during the autumn holidays from 22 October to 4 November.
