Youth welfare committee approves 1.3 million euros to independent youth welfare organisations for 12 construction measures in child daycare centres
At its meeting yesterday, the Youth Welfare Committee approved the draft resolutions submitted by the administration on grants to independent youth welfare organisations for construction measures in child daycare facilities: Twelve measures with a total volume of 1,364,413 euros were approved for five organisations.
The largest project in terms of scope is the complete refurbishment of the Stadlerstraße 10 day care centre run by Kinder- Jugend- und Familienhilfe e.V., which was made possible by the resolution: 680,000 euros were approved for the first construction phase; this measure was already planned in 2011 with 99,840 euros. The complete refurbishment will be carried out in two construction phases: In the first construction phase, the focus will be on draining, scaffolding, roof work, windows and exterior doors as well as locksmith, electrical and sanitary work. The second construction phase will include façade work, metal construction, tiling, flooring, painting and carpentry work as well as the replacement of the interior doors and the locking system. The total costs for this daycare centre are planned at 1,299,840 euros over three years. The children at the centre will be looked after in the alternative buildings at Johannes-Dick-Straße 55/57 and Flemmingstraße 1a. Completion is scheduled for the end of the first half of 2013.

The city of Chemnitz has initiated the project to evaluate school social work for the period September 2011 to the end of 2013. The effects and benefits of school social work at Chemnitz schools will be scientifically analysed. School social work is an independent field of youth welfare work in which dedicated social workers currently work in 20 schools in Chemnitz: They provide help and support for pupils so that they can successfully cope with everyday school life and avoid dropping out of school. They also offer counselling and support for parents and are important contacts for teachers.
The Organisation Consulting Institute of Thuringia (ORBIT), which was commissioned with the evaluation, informed the youth welfare committee members about the current status and further course of the project and provided information about the results of the first survey of pupils, parents, teachers and school social workers.
A second survey phase is planned for the end of the school year and the results will be summarised in a final report at the end of 2013.
