World Alzheimer's Day 2019

The DemenzNetz_C and the Landesinitiative Demenz Sachsen e.V. invite you to a day of action on Saturday, 21 September from 8.30 am to 2 pm at Chemnitz University of Technology (Orangery), Reichenhainer Str. 90, 09126 Chemnitz. Admission is free.

The motto of this year's day of action on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day is "Dementia. Meeting each other openly." and offers those affected, relatives, carers, trainees, volunteers, neighbourhood helpers, everyday companions and all interested parties a broad information forum on the subject of dementia.

Coping with Alzheimer's and senile dementia in everyday life poses enormous challenges for sufferers, relatives and carers every day. A diagnosis of dementia brings major changes for affected families. Worries, fears and uncertainties place an additional burden on everyday life. This makes it all the more important to integrate the topic of dementia into society, promote tolerance, strengthen carers and show those affected and their relatives how life with dementia can be successful.

In addition to specialist presentations on fitness to drive in old age and self-determined living with dementia at the crossroads between life in one's own home, inpatient care and accommodation, information stands on respite services and new technologies and aids, the event will also provide an opportunity for discussions. From 8.30 a.m. to 2 p.m., competent contact persons from various service providers, experts from outpatient and inpatient care and nursing services as well as employees from the Department for Senior Citizens' and Disability Assistance, Local Care Authority of the Social Welfare Office will be available for a personal and, if necessary, confidential discussion.

The event will present modern options that can support the challenges of living with dementia and relieve the burden on relatives. Pioneering technologies such as ageing-in-place systems and the OPDEMIVA laboratory flat, a research project of Chemnitz University of Technology, will be available for viewing.

A reading in the form of an experience report by Sophie Rosentreter will be particularly exciting for family carers. Her grandmother Ilse fell ill with dementia. Sophie Rosentreter and her family did not accept any help for seven years. "We thought we had to manage it on our own. After all, it was our grandma." The relatives were suddenly confronted with depression and aggression. Mistakes were made during this time that others can learn from today.

The day of action will conclude with a joint snack as a thank you to all those active in dementia care and with the opportunity to exchange ideas with the speakers and exhibitors.

Registration is not required. The aim is to make it easier for relatives to attend the event by offering free care for the duration of the event by a professional care service on site. The facility is barrier-free. Parking is available behind the building.

The event is supported and sponsored by AOK PLUS.
