Wheel racket comes back

Line-up on the Neumarkt on 16 March, 11 a.m.

On Monday 16 March at 11 a.m., the restored cartwheeler will be reinstalled at its old location on Neumarkt.

Under the direction of Galerie Weise, artist Lydia Thomas and children from Chemnitz restored and partially redesigned the façade of the Radschläger last autumn. The entire restoration process was designed as an interactive process.

The front of the figure was restored very carefully. Dirt was removed and chipped layers of paint were renewed from a restoration point of view so that the original design of the figure was preserved.

The back of the figure was in a condition that could not be repaired or restored. All remaining remnants of the existing paint were therefore completely sanded down to the outer level of the figure. The sculpture was then re-primed in three stages using water and light-resistant acrylic paint in white. This side of the sculpture was then given an additional coloured primer and a coloured base, which then formed the basis for the painting. Under the guidance of artist Lydia Thomas, children from the Railbeton Haas KG company painted the figure with endangered animal species on the theme of "Forest for Future".

The funds required for the restoration were made possible by the city council with a special resolution. The company Railbeton Haas KG also provided the city with helpful support. The production of the new plinth was largely sponsored financially. In addition, the artist and the children were able to use the company's premises as a studio.
