Traffic opening of the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge is postponed
Road construction work is expected to be delayed until March 2020
The completion of the road construction work on the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Bridge (Kaßberg slip road) has been delayed. There have been delays in the construction work in recent weeks, resulting in the end of construction being postponed by around three to four weeks. The originally planned start of asphalt paving can therefore no longer be adhered to.
Some of the planned services could not be realised on site in the past few weeks as would have been necessary. The structure to be integrated did not correspond to the existing documents. As a result, additional time-consuming planning services were required for the construction of the carriageway slab and asphalt work. Furthermore, adjustments to the parapet heights were necessary due to the actual existing structure.
The mixing plants are expected to cease their work in the 51st week, which means that no asphalt mix will be available. This is another reason why the work will be further delayed. Although the construction company is endeavouring to continue the work quickly, it will not be possible to complete the asphalt work until February or March next year due to the time of year (winter). All other outstanding work will nevertheless be carried out depending on the weather. However, it cannot be ruled out that the onset of winter will lead to longer breaks on the construction site.
The bridge is expected to be opened to traffic when the work is completed at the end of March 2020.
