The Fête de la Musique is growing
This year, the cultural region celebrates
Free and outdoors - this is the motto of the Fête de la Musique in Chemnitz again this year. What's new, however, is that not only Chemnitz is celebrating on 21 June 2020, the cultural region is also celebrating the longest day of the year. Chemnitz has taken its bid to become European Capital of Culture 2025 as an opportunity to link the neighbouring cities culturally. This time, the start of summer will not only be rung in with over 540 cities around the world, but also together with Frankenberg, Mittweida, Zwönitz, Hainichen, Stollberg and Zschopau.
Together with the Spinnerei e.V., which organises the Fête de la Musique in Chemnitz, the Chemnitz2025 team pushed forward the idea of a joint Fête last year - and now the time has come.
"In Chemnitz, as always, there will be various stages and small street music venues around the Red Tower and the market square with musicians from different genres and cultural backgrounds. But of course we are also very excited to see how the Fête de la Musique will be received in the region. In Zschopau and Zwönitz, the town will not become a stage for the first time on 21 June, but it will in Frankenberg, Mittweida, Stollberg and Hainichen. It will definitely be a great day for all of us," says Benjamin Gruner from Spinnerei e.V..
And Dieter Greysinger, Mayor of Hainichen, emphasises: "Being awarded the title of 'European Capital of Culture 2025' would be such a great thing for the Chemnitz region that I didn't hesitate for a moment to take part in one of the last big joint campaigns before the final decision on awarding the title, especially to emphasise our support for the bid. I'm sure all the other cities in our region feel the same way."
Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations throughout the region or to make music themselves. Anyone who would like to be part of the programme can register now on the website www.fete-chemnitz.de.
