Start of bridge construction work in the area of Fritz-Matschke-Straße over the Pleißenbach stream
On Tuesday, 18 August 2020, extensive bridge and civil engineering work will begin on Fritz-Matschke-Straße. The planned construction work consists of site clearance, earthworks and civil engineering work as well as the laying of utilities (electricity, lighting, gas, drinking water, communication, civil engineering traffic lights) and the repair of the bridge over the Pleißenbach.
The bridge was built in 1888. Due to the damage found during the last main inspection and the resulting poor condition rating, the bridge structure urgently needs to be repaired.
The arched bridge will be spanned with a reinforced concrete slab. The new abutments are made of broken up bored pile walls. The bored piles are connected to the superstructure slab. During the construction period, the broken up bored pile walls also take over the function of the construction pit shoring. The existing backfill of the arch is removed and the space between the top of the arch and the new superstructure is filled with drainage concrete. The superstructure has a span of around 9.60 metres and a constant construction height. The carriageway width of around ten metres will correspond to the existing structure. The pavement widths will be the same as the road cross-section over the bridge.
The road will be closed to traffic during the entire construction period. Accessibility for neighbours is guaranteed. The overall construction project is expected to last until May 2021 and will cost around 673,000 euros. The company Gunter Hüttner + Co. GmbH has been commissioned with the construction work.
