"Stalingrad. A call for peace"
Exhibition opening on 21 February, 2 pm in the Open Space
On Friday, 21 February at 2 pm, the exhibition "Stalingrad. A Call for Peace", a documentation of the Battle of Stalingrad, will open in the rooms of the Open Space, Brückenstraße 10 (behind the Marx Monument).
The exhibition was initiated by the administration of the region of Chemnitz's twin city Volgograd. It is the final stage of the so-called exhibition project "From Stalingrad to Prague". The 15 exhibits, posters printed on synthetic canvas (format 1 x 1.5 metres), include rare photos and documentary material from archives and museums worldwide.
The opening will be attended by the First Deputy Mayor of Volgograd, Irina Peshkova, the Head of the Office for International and Regional Relations of Volgograd, Sergey Lapschninov, and the Vice Consul of the Russian Consulate General in Leipzig, Ilya Matveev. Mayor Barbara Ludwig will open the exhibition together with the guests.
The project was launched to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Stalingrad in 2018. The exhibition has already been shown in Germany, including in Cologne and most recently at a German-Russian partnership association in Berlin-Spandau.
The exhibition can be seen from 24 February to 6 March 2020, Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.
The delegation from Volgograd will be visiting from 19 to 22 February 2020. In addition to the opening of the exhibition, the visit will also include talks with various organisations, including the cultural sector and the hospital. A city tour, visits and talks are also planned.
