Rock climbing is prohibited in the Zeisigwald forest
The Environmental Agency informs that rock climbing in the Fuchsberg quarry in the Zeisigwald forest is prohibited. In the recent past, new climbing hooks have repeatedly been found in the rock. The Environment Agency has taken this as an opportunity to draw attention to this ban. The installation of climbing hooks is also prohibited.
The climbing hooks will be removed over the next few weeks as part of a fire brigade exercise. Signs with the words "Climbing prohibited" will also be put up.
Hilbersdorf porphyry tuff was quarried in the Fuchsberg quarry in Zeisigwald, particularly at the end of the 19th century. Today, the area around the quarry walls, which are a maximum of 25 metres high, is largely wooded and natural. This quarry and the neighbouring Ratssteinbruch quarry were placed under protection as a natural monument back in 1973, primarily due to their geological significance.
The geological outcrop and the flora and fauna in this area should be preserved and protected and allowed to develop undisturbed.
