Research and experimentation during the summer holidays
Treasure hunt in the Museum of Natural History's "Window into the Earth's History"
From 8 July to 16 August 2019, the Museum of Natural History's excavation "Window into Earth History" (Glockenstraße 16) is offering three programmes that invite children to explore and try things out.
As "fossil hunters", the holiday children gain insights into the plant and animal world of our earth's history. They explore the excavation and learn what is behind the term fossil and how they are formed (Mondays 8 July | 15 July | 22 July | 5 August | 12 August, 10 a.m. each day).
As "excavation helpers", the young visitors become researchers themselves and learn from the scientists how an excavation works. They become active themselves and search for treasures that they can then take home with them (Wednesdays 10 July | 17 July | 24 July | 7 August | 14 August at 1 pm).
The "Taxidermist" holiday programme provides young researchers with exciting background information about the profession of geological taxidermist. Here, the holiday children become a taxidermist themselves, can try out equipment and work on fossils (from 6 years, Fridays 12 July | 19 July | 26 July | 09 August | 16 August at 1 pm).
The "Window into the Earth's History" project is subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF). Participation is free of charge*. Registration is required at fenster@naturkunde-chemnitz.de or www.grabungsteam-chemnitz.de.
