Renovation of the mill in Rottluff

Excess funds to the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Chemnitz Friends' Association

At its meeting today, Chemnitz City Council decided to provide the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Chemnitz e.V. association with 90,000 euros as a grant to renovate the mill.

The mill building in Chemnitz/Rottluff is a cultural monument in accordance with the Saxon Monument Protection Act. The ensemble consisting of the artist's birthplace and the mill is to be turned into a memorial site. Extensive conservation measures were already carried out in 2009/2010. Over the past two years, the historic mill technology has been restored to its original condition on a voluntary basis by the Karl-Schmidt-Rottluff Chemnitz e.V. association.

The association intends to have urgently needed renovation work carried out on the building, such as fire protection measures and the installation of a toilet and heating system.

The costs for this are expected to be around 90,000 euros. This year, the association is to be supported with the aforementioned sum for necessary renovation work. The financial resources required for this exceed the available funding budget, which is why it is necessary to provide additional funds.

The additional funds are available due to surpluses from the general and investment key allocations for 2020 that the City of Chemnitz received from the state of Saxony. The expected key allocations for 2020 were already planned in 2018 due to the two-year plan. At that time, the economic situation, population development and tax capacity of the City of Chemnitz as well as the total revenue could not yet be accurately estimated.

In addition, the so-called key mass of the Free State was increased compared to 2019 from the 2018 settlement. The key mass serves as the starting point for calculating the key allocations for the respective municipality.
