REGIOSTARS 2020 of the EU Commission
Chemnitz project is a finalist - Voting for audience award until 15 September
The European Commission is once again honouring the most innovative regional, EU-funded projects this year. In the category "Youth promotion for cross-border cooperation - 30 years of Interreg", which was also the theme of the year, the project "Tracking down the climate" is one of the five finalists in its category.
"Tracking down the climate" is a German-Czech project organised by the Chemnitz Children's Association together with the Labyrinth House for Children and Youth in Chodov and the House for Children and Youth in Ústí nad Labem. The aim was to raise awareness of climate protection and CO2 reduction among children and young people as well as educators.
In the period from April 2016 to March 2019, 29 environmental education events, nine climate protection camps and six themed training courses for professionals were held with a total of 2,000 participants from Saxony and the Czech Republic. The project also included educational modules for school classes, a study "Analysing the importance of climate protection in the Saxon and Czech curriculum" and the construction of a green classroom/climate house in Chodov and a nature trail in the "Movement and Environmental Park" in Ústí nad Labem. The EU subsidised the project with a total of around 1.25 million euros.
The Commission selected 206 entries in five categories that are important for the future of EU regional policy. Taking into account the online votes cast, an independent jury of experts finally selected two out of six Saxon projects from the European applicants as the top 5 in each category.
Voting for the winner of the audience award is still open until 15 September at the following link:
