Reflecting on tolerance - talk at the VHS
On Thursday, 26 September, from 6.45 to 9 p.m., the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Saxon State Centre for Political Education invite you to a discussion evening on the topic of tolerance in the TIETZ, course room 4.07. Admission is free. Admission is free.
After a general introduction to the concept of tolerance, further questions will be discussed with the participants using specific examples:
How do we deal with people who think differently, how do we deal with extremists? What style of communication does tolerance require? How much openness can our democracy cope with, and what threatens it?
We look at where the limits of individual and social tolerance lie and what causes them. The concept of tolerance is classified in a general scheme of opinion, behaviour and reaction.
Tolerant interaction between people is an important basic value of a democratic society. Tolerance proves to be a valuable buffer for social peace in the short term. In the long term, however, too much tolerance can also exacerbate problems, lead to an inability to act and to disenchantment with politics.
This event is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Saxon State Centre for Political Education as part of the "Kontrovers vor Ort" series.
