Rare species of corvid new to the zoo
A few days ago, a one-year-old male raven arrived at Chemnitz Zoo from Switzerland. The animal is the most common representative of African corvids and has moved into the facility on Nevoigtstraße. The zoo is currently one of only nine zoological institutions in Germany to exhibit this species. A female is due to follow so that breeding will also be possible in the future.
The name of the raven is derived from the shield-shaped white plumage colouring in the chest and neck area. As is usual with ravens, both sexes are involved in rearing the young.
