Questions about the future in dialogue - VHS event

On Wednesday, 6 November 2019, the series "And what will be tomorrow - the big trends of the future in conversation" will continue at the adult education centre. ARD presenter Alexander Thamm will discuss the challenges facing modern societies in dialogue with renowned scientists. In 2018, he met various dialogue partners at ARD-alpha to focus on selected key issues of our time. Alexander Thamm reports on his findings and forecasts at the VHS Chemnitz.

Future questions in dialogue: How will we work?
On Wednesday, 6 November 2019, 7 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., the focus will be on digitalised working environments in the TIETZ Verantaltungssaal. Prof. Dr Petra Kemter-Hofmann, work and organisational psychologist at TU Dresden, will be supporting Alexander Thamm. She is researching the companies of the future. Both will be looking at how the places and structures of our work are changing. Participation is free of charge.

On the topic of the evening (ARD-alpha): Digitalisation, automation and globalisation are threatening to cause millions of jobs to be lost and dozens of professions to become extinct. At the same time, the number of people in employment is increasing in many industrialised countries. Machines are increasingly taking over people's work. Will wage labour remain an integral part of our social life in the future? Or will digital steam hammers and machines gradually cause the familiar world of work to disappear?

Future questions in dialogue: How will we live?
On Monday, 11 November 2019, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., in the TIETZ event hall, an evening on the transformation of urban space will conclude the series of questions about the future. All over the world, people are moving to the cities. While there is a housing shortage in Germany's metropolises, individual regions are becoming deserted. This is changing the relationship between urban and rural areas, but also poses major challenges for the cities themselves: Is there enough housing for everyone? What urban infrastructure is needed?

After the film sequences, ARD presenter Alexander Thamm will talk to Prof Manuel Bäumler, urban planner and holder of the Chair of Urban Planning at TU Dresden. Participation is free of charge.

On the topic of the evening (ARD-alpha): In 2030, an estimated five billion people worldwide will live in a city. Nobody yet knows how the metropolises will cope with this onslaught. The city of the future wants to be healthy, liveable and resource-efficient. In order to fulfil this goal, it will have to radically change its mobility and communication structure.

The series of events is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Saxon State Centre for Political Education as part of the "Controversial on Site" series.
