New residents at Chemnitz Zoo
The year starts with good news from Chemnitz Zoo: the first offspring have been born. Over the past few days, four dwarf goat lambs (from three mothers) have seen the light of day in the farm's petting enclosure. The little ones are still a little shy, but are curiously exploring their enclosure and their neighbours in the sunshine of the past few days. Dwarf goats are pets and can have young all year round.
Those who like it a little warmer can go on a voyage of discovery in the zoo's tropical house. In addition to the many - sometimes very rare - bird species in the free-flight hall, there is a new species of lizard to see in the foyer. A group of green tree lizards has moved into a terrarium. This tropical species is rarely exhibited in zoological institutions. The most striking feature of the slender lizards is their tail, which can make up around three quarters of the animal's total length. The green tree lizard is found in Kenya and Tanzania and has only a small distribution area with strong fragmentation. It is therefore categorised as potentially endangered.
