New rescue station and fire station in Glösa
Official handover on 20 June, 10 a.m., Bornaer Straße 203
On Saturday, 20 June at 10 a.m., Mayor Sven Schulze will officially hand over the new fire station and rescue station at Bornaer Straße 203 in Glösa for use.
Since 1975, the site has served as a warehouse for the vehicles and equipment of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade. After the old equipment depot was demolished at the end of 2017, the firefighters temporarily used a hall on the A4 industrial estate.
The city of Chemnitz decided to build a new combined fire station and rescue centre so that the northern districts of the city can also be provided with rescue services more quickly in future. The costs for the rescue centre are borne by the Chemnitz-Erzgebirge rescue association. The rescue service is operated by members of the Chemnitz professional fire brigade.
Mayor Sven Schulze: "With the official handover in Glösa, the time of makeshift solutions is finally over. The volunteer members of the Glösa volunteer fire brigade now have modern working conditions. At the same time, we can now better cover the north of Chemnitz with the rescue service, which brings a significant increase in safety for the population in the neighbourhoods."
The total cost of the construction project is just under 3.5 million euros. Around 2.3 million euros of this is for the construction of the new equipment centre. The Free State of Saxony contributed to the construction project with funding totalling around half a million euros.
