New edition of "Stay visible and audible"

Creative people and tour guides can apply for financial support for cultural and artistic projects for the "Chemnitz Summer of Culture" in the city centre and for themed city tours. The aim is to turn the city centre into a stage and a lively cultural venue. The funding guideline stipulates that a maximum of 2,000 euros can be applied for with an application for "cultural snacks".

As tour guides were previously not eligible for any special funding from the local authority or state under the coronavirus situation, they can now receive up to 1,000 euros from the City of Chemnitz. With thematically diverse tours, they are important and valuable ambassadors for the city of Chemnitz.

At its July meeting, the city council passed a resolution to make the corresponding funds available. For example, 150,000 euros will be allocated for the "Chemnitz Summer of Culture" and 25,000 euros for the city tours. It also decided that the remaining applications from the first round of the special programme should also be financed by the funds.

The demand for the first edition of the "Remain visible and audible during the crisis" programme was immense. Chemnitz was the first city in Saxony to offer cultural professionals specific support for their creativity back in April. The special programme "Staying visible and audible during the crisis" helped many artists through the first difficult period of the coronavirus pandemic. A large number of great projects were created. Last but not least, "Kultursommer I", which ran until July, introduced a number of artists and ultimately helped to revitalise the city centre after the coronavirus restrictions.

"So now things are continuing and Chemnitz residents and visitors to the city can look forward to admission-free events in many places in the city centre. Here and there, there are new cultural and artistic discoveries to be made in a city that is on its way to becoming the European Capital of Culture 2025. And without giving too much away, it is foreseeable that everything from cabaret to music, dance, experimental projects, theatre performances, literary events and walk acts can be included," says Ralph Burghart, the mayor responsible for culture in Chemnitz.

Applications for the "Visible and audible" programme (Kultur.sichtbar II) are expected to be possible online from Wednesday, 12 August via the Saxon service portal "Amt24.sachsen.de". Applications will be processed by the City of Chemnitz's cultural department. As in the first round of the special programme, applicants should receive prompt feedback as to whether funding is possible.
