New construction of the Bernsdorf swimming complex

Variants for the refurbishment of the Bernsdorf outdoor pool are to be submitted

At its meeting today, the city council approved the construction of the new Bernsdorf swimming complex. At the same time, the council instructed the city to present options for the renovation of the Bernsdorf outdoor pool in the first quarter of 2020. This was a prerequisite for the approval of the new construction of the Bernsdorf swimming complex.

The new construction of an indoor swimming pool suitable for competitions with a 25-metre lane is being built on the site of the Bernsdorf outdoor pool with associated open space. The competition hall contains the 25-metre sports pool, associated control and storage rooms and can be separated from the leisure hall if required - for example during competitions. The swimming area with teaching pool, 3-metre diving facility with separate pool, children's paddling pool and catering facilities complete the new indoor pool. Both utilisation areas of the new swimming complex are equipped with heated benches that can be used as rest areas and spectator seating areas. Two direct, barrier-free entrances from the competition hall and indoor catering area to the adjoining outdoor pool area with sunbathing lawn, beach volleyball and outdoor catering seating are planned for combined pool use, thus providing a connection to the existing 100-metre outdoor pool.

The swimming complex is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2022. The costs amount to around 21.6 million euros (net). Around 11.5 million euros in subsidies from the "Bridges to the Future" programme have been earmarked for financing. Based on the first rough cost calculation, there is an increase of around EUR 6.3 million. This is due, among other things, to generally higher construction costs due to the good order situation, difficult subsoil found at the site and the associated more complex construction work as well as cost increases for the technical systems.
