Lecture on the political situation in Ukraine

On Monday, 28 October, from 6.45 pm to 9 pm, the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre is hosting a lecture by political scientist Florian Kistner on the current political situation in Ukraine. The topic will be the development of the country from the Maidan protests in 2013 to the current demonstrations in Kiev. The event will take place in the TIETZ, VHS course room 4.07. Admission is free.

Ukraine has not come to rest since 2013. The more than five-year war with Russia in the east of the country has claimed well over 10,000 lives and yet is hardly ever discussed in public. The country is heavily indebted and dependent on loans from the EU and the IMF. Politically, Ukraine is caught between Europe and Russia.

With the change of presidency following the elections in May 2019, hopes for impetus to resolve the most pressing issues are growing, but so are concerns about new tensions and internal political conflicts. At the same time, the parliamentary elections in July 2019 brought new political conditions. Not least due to the suspected election aid for Trump, Ukraine is currently attracting global political attention.

Visitors can expect an interesting evening with plenty of background knowledge about the not-so-distant neighbouring country of Ukraine.

This event is a cooperation between the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre and the Saxon State Centre for Political Education as part of the "Kontrovers vor Ort" series.
