Journalist Jörg Armbruster on authentic reporting from the crisis regions in the Middle East
Vision series "What kind of society do we want to live in?" - on 13 September, 7 pm
On Friday 13 September at 7 pm, the adult education centre invites you to a lecture by Jörg Armbruster in the TIETZ event hall. In his lecture "Crossfire - Travelling as a correspondent in the Middle East", Armbruster will discuss questions such as: How truthful can a television correspondent report from a war zone? What dangers are they exposed to? Can his information be trusted? How close should he get to the events?
Admission is free. However, registration is required by calling 488 4343, by e-mail to info(at)vhs-chemnitz.de or in person during the opening hours of the adult education centre.
The author and television journalist Jörg Armbruster reports on his experiences in the crisis regions in the Middle East. He was ARD's foreign correspondent for this region for many years as well as presenter of ARD's World Mirror programme. As a television correspondent in Syria, for example, he worked on the side controlled by the Assad regime, accompanied by a ministry of information minder. He and his cameraman were also monitored on the rebel side. Reporting freely is different, says Jörg Armbruster - but he still believes that the war correspondents' reporting can be trusted.
Jörg Armbruster has analysed the conflicts and processes of change in the Arab world in numerous documentary films and books. Among other honours, he received the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize in 2013 and the Bavarian Television Prize for his life's work in 2015.
