Is our economic model fit for the future?
Discussion on 27 November at the Chemnitz Adult Education Centre
On Wednesday, 27 November, from 7 to 8.30 p.m., the adult education centre will be holding a panel discussion with various economic experts in the TIETZ event hall. The focus will be on the question of whether the current economic model in Germany can cope with challenges such as climate change, distributive injustice or the global scarcity of resources. The following questions will also be asked: Should securing prosperity in the global North come at the expense of the countries of the South? What can, what may and what should our economy achieve? Admission is free.
Hartmut Fiedler, former State Secretary in the Saxon State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport, Martin Schebesta, Coordinator for Fundamental Issues of Regulatory Policy and the Social Market Economy at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Nina Treu, co-founder of Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie, will be discussing these issues. The moderator will be Eileen Mägel from Dresden.
Background to the event: Humanity is growing and needs are changing. Ecological and social problems such as man-made climate change, distributive injustice and the global scarcity of resources are already presenting mankind with enormous challenges. Changes to the economic system today can make a decisive contribution to securing the future of future generations.
But what direction should it take? Should there be more or less market influence? What role does growth play? We invite you to join us for a debate on these questions.
The event is the result of a broad co-operation within the framework of the Saxon Development Policy Education Days. Co-operation partners are IAE e.V., Chemnitz Adult Education Centre, Development Policy Network Saxony as well as the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation Saxony and Weiterdenken - Heinrich Böll Foundation Saxony.
