The "Window into the Earth's History" excavation site at Glockenstraße 16 in 09130 Chemnitz offers the unique opportunity of a treasure hunt right on your doorstep. During the summer holidays, children (from the age of six) and young people can discover the treasures underground in the city in four self-contained programmes, learn about special professions and experience Chemnitz 291 million years ago on a tour through the Zeisigwald forest.

Participation is free of charge. Please register by e-mail to: fenster(at)naturkunde-chemnitz.de or online at www.grabungsteam-chemnitz.de. The corona protection measures applicable at the time of the event apply.

Excavation helpers - Monday, 20/27 July and 3/17/24 August, 10 a.m. each day
In the "Excavation Helpers" programme, young visitors become researchers themselves and learn from the scientists how an excavation works. They become active and search for treasures that they can then take home with them.

Precious stones - Wednesday, 22 July and 5/26 August, 10 a.m. each day
In the "Precious Stones" format, the holiday children also learn what agate, quartz and fluorite have to do with the Chemnitz volcanic eruption 291 million years ago.

Excursion to the Zeisigwald - Wednesdays, 29 July and 19 August, 10 a.m. each day
On an excursion to the Zeisigwald forest, participants can learn interesting facts about the demanding work in our city's quarries

Taxidermist - Friday, 24/31 July and 7/21/28 August, 10 a.m. each day
Young researchers will learn exciting background information about the job of a geological taxidermist during the "Taxidermist" holiday programme. Participants will try out preparation equipment and work on fossils themselves (from 6 years).

The "Window into the Earth's History" project is subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF).
