Federal volunteers meet European volunteers at the town hall

Invitation to the photo session: 9 a.m. or 2 p.m., Grüner Salon, Chemnitz City Hall

On Thursday, 30 January at 9 a.m., the city's EU Coordinator, Pia Sachs, will welcome 15 federal volunteers from Germany and four participants in the European Voluntary Service. The aim of the meeting is to provide information about the city's history, European work and Chemnitz's bid to become European Capital of Culture. The volunteers from Germany and Europe will also have the opportunity to socialise and exchange experiences about their various services and their life in Chemnitz.

After a presentation on the city and its European work, Eva Gräfer from the European Capital of Culture Office will report on the further progress of the application to become European Capital of Culture 2025. A guided tour of the town hall will provide insights into the history. Finally, Gratiela Hennig from the solaris support centre will explain the application for the European Solidarity Corps and voluntary service in other European countries.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to a photo opportunity at 9 a.m. or 2 p.m. in the Green Parlour in the Town Hall.

The young Europeans come from Armenia, Greece, Italy and Spain. They are doing their service in various facilities run by solaris Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen. The federal volunteers, aged 18 to over 60, are active in Chemnitz youth and cultural associations as well as social institutions, e.g. in day-care centres, the vehicle museum, the Siegmar clothing store and the Chemnitz and Chemnitz area Red Cross.
