Expansion of Zschopauer Straße begins
Invitation for media representatives to the symbolic ground-breaking ceremony
Representatives of the media are hereby invited to attend - please note: Access to the event location - the area for the future rainwater retention basin on the B174 (site plan attached) - is possible via Zschopauer Straße / Georgistraße. A limited number of parking spaces are available on Georgistraße. There are no parking facilities directly at the venue.
With the multi-part B 174 transport project, the state and local authorities want to upgrade this federal road to cope with the increasing volume of traffic. Up to 25,000 vehicles per day already use this route. Forecasts predict that this figure will rise to around 34,000 vehicles per day. The construction costs for the upcoming four-lane expansion of a 908 metre long section of the B 174 between Südring and Bergfrieden amount to 20 million euros. 5.2 million euros are earmarked as the city's share. This year alone, 2.7 million euros will be spent. The road is scheduled to be opened to traffic at the end of November 2014.
Note: On 17 August 2012, the press office issued press release 476 (including a flyer on the expansion of Zschopauer Straße) on the construction details of this complex traffic project - www.chemnitz.de
