AG Naturforscher - working group for nature-loving children aged 6 to 13 - polishing rocks to a shine
Location: Museum of Natural History, Museum Education Cabinet

How do you polish an amethyst, a piece of fossilised wood or an amber? Together we will polish the minerals and fossils.

*Hang for culture*
Location: Window into the history of the earth, Glockenstraße 16, 9130 Chemnitz
Admission: free
The Sonnenberg's educational and cultural stakeholders are once again offering a varied programme for this year's "Hang zur Kultur" district event. The scientific excavation by the Museum of Natural History at the "Window into the Earth's History" will also be part of the programme. Here, science is brought to life for local residents and a treasure is revealed right on their doorstep.

Public Tuesday tour
Location: Meeting point 1st floor Tietz / Museum für Naturkunde, followed by a 20-minute walk to the Window into Earth History excavation at Glockenstraße 16.
Admission: 5 euros, concessions 2.50 euros, free for children and young people up to the age of 18.
Tickets are only available on the day of the event at the museum ticket office in Tietz.
We embark on a journey to Chemnitz 291 million years ago. A mighty volcano bubbled in the middle of a green oasis. We owe the fossils of the Petrified Forest in Chemnitz to this volcano. Discover the exciting stories that scientists have discovered about the forest.

Together we will explore the Zeisigwald forest on an excursion and follow the trail of the volcano (from 6 years). Meeting point: Dresdner Straße / corner of Steinweg.

Precious stones

Agate, quartz, fluorite - we want to find out together on the excavation what these precious stones have to do with Chemnitz and the volcanic eruption 291 million years ago.
