Events at the Museum of Natural History in October 2019

Tuesday, 1 October, 3 p.m.

Public Tuesday guided tour

Location: TIETZ, Museum of Natural History, 1st floor (followed by a 20-minute walk together to the "Window into Earth History" excavation at Glockenstraße 16)

Admission: 5 euros, concessions 2.50 euros, children and young people up to the age of 18 free of charge.

Tickets are only available on the day of the event at the museum ticket office in the TIETZ. (It is not possible to purchase tickets at the excavation).

We embark on a journey to Chemnitz 291 million years ago, when metre-high trees formed a primeval forest. Giant insects dominated the airspace. A mighty volcano bubbled in the middle of this green oasis. We owe the fossils of the Petrified Forest in Chemnitz to this volcano. Look forward to the many stories that scientists have learnt from working with the fossils.

It's getting cold soon! - How animals prepare for winter

Admission: free

The days are slowly getting shorter and the temperatures are dropping. We get the thick jackets out of the wardrobe and pull the woolly hats over our ears. But how do animals prepare for the approaching winter? Together we solve the questions: How long does the dormouse really sleep? Why do some animals suddenly turn white? Why don't ducks freeze to the ice with their feet? We will make an autumnal lantern to take home.

There is a material cost of 1 euro per participant.

The number of participants is limited to 20.

Only with pre-registration on 0371 488 4555 or ehle(at)naturkunde-chemnitz.de

For after-school groups

Monday, 14 October to Friday, 25 October
