Monday, 4 November, 6.30 p.m.
Literaturforum Bibliothek: Michael G. Fritz, Auffliegende Papageien

Venue: Vita Centre District Library, W.-Sagorski-Straße 22
Admission: free

Fritz tells the story of a great love affair that spans a period of fifty years and
and touches on two social systems. Arno Peters, a Berlin journalist,
is left by his wife Angelika soon after reunification for another man, Viktor Gussew, with whom she also has a business relationship that can best be described as unification crime. After many years, he meets her again and starts to get involved in her husband's property business. In order to be close to her, Arno becomes part of the "Gussew system", in which a dusty and at the same time influential part of a world that was thought to have disappeared lives on. Angelika and Arno take stock and are faced with big questions: How long will the past haunt them? Or will the two of them haunt it?

Peter Stamm, The gentle indifference of the world

Venue: TIETZ, Central Library, Event Hall
Admission: 12 euros, concessions 9 euros

Relive your own life. Should you wish for that?
Christoph arranges to meet the much younger Lena in Stockholm. He tells her that twenty years ago he loved a woman who was similar to her, even the same as her. He knows the life she leads and knows what lies ahead for her. Thus begins an unprecedentedly truthful game between the past and the present, from which no one will emerge unscathed.
Can we escape our fate or must we resign ourselves to the gentle indifference of the world? Peter Stamm, the great storyteller of existential human experience, tells another story of the inexplicable closeness that separates us from who we used to be. "Die sanfte Gleichgültigkeit der Welt" was awarded the Swiss Book Prize in 2018.

Due to Jason's rules and his very special perspective on life, they experience a variety of bizarre and amusing adventures and share them with the whole world on their blog. In 2017, Jason and his father became the youngest ever winners of the Grimme Online Award for their project. The Cold Heart - Capitalism: The story of an ongoing revolution
Venue: TIETZ, Central Library, event hall
Admission: free

Reading and discussion with the economic historian Prof Werner Plumpe
"The cold heart, the merciless dynamics of variation and selection of capitalism, which only evaluates economic success and disregards all social, ethical, political, aesthetic and ecological aspects, insofar as they are not relevant to price and payment, is ultimately preferable to all forms of supposed warm-heartedness, which do not deliver what they frivolously promise."

This is the conclusion of Frankfurt economic historian Prof Werner Plumpe in his latest book "Das kalte Herz" (The Cold Heart). Looking back, Plumpe sees capitalism as the "history of an ongoing revolution". However, this is not the cause of current crisis situations, but part of their solution. After all, the constant renewal of capitalism is as good or bad as we shape it.

Prof Werner Plumpe will read from his book "Das kalte Herz" (The Cold Heart) and then discuss it with the audience.
