Energy efficiency theme evening in the New Technical Town Hall

On Thursday, 10 October, from 4.30 p.m., the city and its partners are hosting an energy efficiency evening. The event will take place in the New Technical Town Hall. Admission is free.

Building owners and tenants are equally welcome and can find out all about energy-efficient refurbishment, energy-saving checks, building thermography and the city's climate protection activities and receive advice on site. Interested parties can find out about the city's various climate and energy efficiency projects. The Saxony Consumer Advice Centre also invites you to get advice directly on site. Together with the city of Chemnitz, the consumer advice centre will be handing out a limited number of vouchers for a building check to interested parties.

The Deutsche Caritasverband e. V. (German Caritas Association) will be presenting the energy-saving check for low-income households supported by the city, in the context of which energy guzzlers in the household will be identified and an energy-saving plan drawn up. In addition, energy-saving items such as lamps, standby switches and water technology worth up to 70 euros are installed free of charge. The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), with which the City of Chemnitz is cooperating in the Modernisation Alliances project, will also be on site to present the building thermography method as the first and essential step in analysing the building envelope. In this context, the Environment Agency, together with the DBU, held an initial event in Wittgensdorf during the last heating period, at which a thermography tour for interested citizens was tested together with eins and the consumer advice centre. The project, initiated by the Federal Environmental Foundation, is intended in particular to help reduce heating and electricity costs with a reasonable amount of effort. SAENA will be on hand to answer any questions about financing and funding. A significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions can only be realised with the help of the urban population.

The German government has set itself the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Germany by 55 per cent by 2030 and by 80 to 95 per cent by 2050 (in each case in relation to the base year 1990). For the city of Chemnitz, this means a reduction to 2.5 tonnes to 0.62 tonnes of CO2 per inhabitant per year. In addition to the expansion of renewable energies and the switch to alternative forms of mobility, the energy-efficient refurbishment of buildings and increasing the energy efficiency of existing buildings are crucial to achieving the ambitious climate targets.

Building owners are being asked: How much energy can be saved in their own residential buildings and where is there potential for structural improvement? How can efficient refurbishment be carried out and can it be cost-effective? The touring exhibition "Energetic Refurbishment" by the Saxon Energy Agency SAENA has been on display in the foyer of the new Technical Town Hall since 16 September 19 and provides answers to these questions.
