Dr Mark Benecke reads on the topic "Insect Special"
The well-known criminal biologist and specialist in forensic entomology will be reading at the TIETZ on the Insectarium's anniversary day on 7 October 2019 at 7 pm. Tickets go on sale on Thursday, 16 May 2019.
In his reading on the subject of "Insect Special", Dr Mark Benecke will shed light on piquant details about insects. These include the carrion-eating red-legged ham beetle, which can be detected from the 6th day after the death of a human. The predatory larvae of the coloured beetle, gold fly, flesh fly and cheese fly are also examined in terms of their forensic value. The larvae of the cheese fly, for example, are characterised by special properties: They are resistant to stomach acid. By quickly bending in and stretching out their body, they can jump 10 to 15 centimetres far and high.
Tickets for this special event will be on sale from Thursday 16 May 2019 for 25 euros at the ticket office of the Museum für Naturkunde on the first floor of Tietz during regular opening hours.
A maximum of six tickets can be purchased per adult.

Background
The Insektarium was born on 7 October 1979. Since then, tropical insects, spiders, millipedes and crustaceans have been on display in the centre of the city. The idea behind it all is to make people understand in the truest sense of the word. Live specimens of one of the world's most exciting animal groups with their unrivalled diversity can be marvelled at and sometimes even touched.
