Day of the Geotope
Event at the "Window into the Earth's History", 20 September, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Museum of Natural History's scientific excavation at the "Window on Earth's History" on Sunday, 20 September, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will provide insights into a time 291 million years ago. Young and old can talk to researchers. Visitors can learn exciting stories about the Chemnitz Petrified Forest, look over the shoulders of researchers at work and marvel at new finds. Curious young researchers can also become active themselves and go in search of fossils in a recreated excavation situation for children. Participation is free of charge. Registration is not required.
The "Window into the Earth's History" project is subsidised by the European Social Fund.
On Geotope Day on 20 September, insights into the history of the earth will be made accessible to visitors at numerous geotopes throughout Germany. Geotope Day is an initiative of the German Geological Society - Geological Association.
On this day, geotopes such as quarries, rocks or mineral sites, historic mines and many other excursion destinations can be explored together with experts. The full programme can be viewed at www.tag-des-geotops.de.
