Current situation of the corona pandemic in Chemnitz

Outlook for possible easing

In Chemnitz, 196 people have tested positive for the coronavirus. 14 patients are currently being treated in hospital, one of them in intensive care. The number of deaths remains unchanged at five.

Seven employees in clinics have tested positive and two employees in doctors' surgeries.

No people in care services or nursing homes are affected.

Yesterday, Monday, 35 people were tested in the Corona outpatient clinic at the Chemnitz Exhibition Centre.

Lord Mayor Barbara Ludwig today announced her goal for the coming weeks:

"We want to utilise the permitted legal framework for more public coexistence - wherever possible. I am relying on compliance with hygiene rules, social distancing and the wearing of face masks in enclosed spaces if no other protection is available. I also rely on the personal responsibility of citizens."

In detail, the mayor announced the following steps - subject to legal feasibility due to the new Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance:

Office openings

The current availability of all city administration offices will be extended. Previously, personal appointments were only arranged in cases that could not be postponed. All other questions were dealt with by telephone or electronically. From Wednesday, 6 May, the offices that receive a lot of visitors will also be open for face-to-face appointments.

This applies, for example, to the customer portal on the ground floor of the Moritzhof, the Social Welfare Office, the Youth Welfare Office and the Cash and Tax Office, as well as the Citizens' Office in the Bürgerhaus am Wall.

In order to ensure protection against infection, appointments must always be made by telephone. This minimises waiting times. Appointments with the offices can be made from Thursday, 30 April. The telephone numbers can be found at www.chemnitz.de or by calling the service number 115.

When visiting the city authorities, Chemnitz residents are asked to wear face masks, as they do on public transport and in shops.

City museums, libraries, zoo/wildlife park and botanical garden

The art collections and the city library will open from Monday, 4 May.
Mouth and nose protection must be worn in the library and museum.

The wildlife park and zoo will also open on Monday, 4 May. The Botanical Gardens will also open on Monday, 4 May. Greenhouses and vivariums in both facilities will remain closed. Mouth and nose protection must be worn when purchasing tickets at the zoo ticket office.

In her outlook, the Lord Mayor emphasised that the aim is to gradually open even more museums and leisure facilities.

Further openings are being prepared, for the realisation of which the legal basis from the Free State still has to be provided.

The city is continuing to work on various concepts in order to be prepared for possible further openings in the future and to be able to implement them quickly if they are permitted.

For example, the Parks Department is working on concepts to ensure that some playgrounds can open as soon as permitted. In addition, the employees of the Sports Office are preparing to open outdoor swimming pools and the employees of Eissport- und Freizeit GmbH are preparing to open the reservoir.

The sports clubs, together with the Stadtsportbund, are being asked to develop concepts on how to make it possible to practise different types of sport again while observing infection protection measures.

Concepts will be developed for small cultural events where sufficient distancing can be guaranteed and which take place outdoors, as well as for open child and youth work programmes.
