Construction decision: Track triangle in front of the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology to be renovated
At its meeting, the city council approved the renewal of the railway triangle in front of the Chemnitz State Museum of Archaeology. This construction project is a collaboration between CVAG and the city's civil engineering department and, in addition to the track triangle, also affects the neighbouring footpaths and cycle paths as well as the barrier-free expansion of existing stops. The construction area is located between the eastern end of the "Brückenstraße/Freie Presse" stop in Brückenstraße, the northern start of the "Zentralhaltestelle" stop in Bahnhofstraße and extends up to approx. 180 metres into Augustusburger Straße.
The work includes the renovation of the railway tracks, the footpaths and cycle paths in the area will be completely renewed and the kerbs will be partially corrected. Additional trees will be planted on Augustusburgerstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse. The traffic lights are also to be renewed so that pedestrians and cyclists can cross the road safely. To increase pedestrian safety, a separate lane will be created for traffic turning right from Bahnhofstraße into Augustusburger Straße. CVAG will be making the tram stops "eins Energie" and "Stefan-Heym-Platz" barrier-free.
In order to avoid a full closure of this area, individual lanes will be closed alternately. A diversion is nevertheless necessary in the direction of the railway station via Zschopauer Straße - Straße Park der Opfer des Faschismus - Zieschestraße - Augustusburger Straße. Construction is scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2020. The construction time is approx. 14 months. The costs amount to around 812,000 euros.
