Commemorating the end of the war 75 years ago
Silent wreath-laying ceremonies on 8 May, 9 and 10 a.m.
8 May 1945 marks the end of the Second World War in Europe. As a day of remembrance, it commemorates the end of the war and the liberation from National Socialism every year.
To mark the 75th anniversary, so-called silent wreath-laying ceremonies will be held on Friday, 8 May at 9 am at the municipal cemetery at the war cemetery on Richterweg and at 10 am at the memorial in the Park of the Victims of Fascism.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig and representatives of the city council will lay wreaths at both locations. The Lord Mayor will give a short speech in each case to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of the war. The commemorations are accompanied by a piece of cello music.
In addition to fallen Soviet soldiers, prisoners of war and forced labourers who lost their lives here in the region rest on the war graves on Richterweg.
The memorial in the Park of the Victims of Fascism commemorates the victims of the National Socialist regime.
