Climate protection through a traffic turnaround in Chemnitz
On Tuesday, 17 March at 6 pm, an information and discussion event on the traffic turnaround in Chemnitz will take place as part of the Mobility Working Group at the Environmental Centre, Henriettenstraße 5. The speaker will be Alexander Kirste, Head of the Transport Planning Department at the Civil Engineering Office.
17.8 per cent of German greenhouse gas emissions come from the transport sector. This makes transport the only sector in which greenhouse gas emissions have not fallen compared to 1990. In order to meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, corresponding efforts are required. A reorientation of mobility can also mean more road safety, less congestion, less noise and better use of urban space. According to a study by the Wuppertal Institute, transport in Germany can become emission-free by 2035.
The event will illustrate where Chemnitz stands today and what the subsequent measures will be.
Interested parties are cordially invited.
