Clear view: owners have a duty

Hedges and trees on private property boundaries must not protrude into the public traffic area

Property owners are called upon to cut back branches, twigs and hedges that protrude into the public space (pavements and roads).

Obstructions caused by overhanging branches or even overgrown traffic signs as well as overgrown hedges endanger road users. In the event of imminent danger, the City of Chemnitz is obliged by the Saxon Road Act (SächsStrG ) to take immediate action and must charge the owner/property owner for the costs incurred.

The living space "road" should enable all road users to participate equally and safely. For this reason, property owners must cut back their shrubs and trees and ensure that there is sufficient visibility of signs, crossings and street lighting.

By ensuring the safe use of public traffic areas, they contribute significantly to a pleasant living and recreational environment in the city.
