City of Chemnitz applies as a public transport model project
The city of Chemnitz will apply to the federal government for a public transport model region project.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig explained today that the city council's decision will of course be implemented. Statements to the contrary from the administration are incorrect.
The federal government's climate protection package includes plans to test a 365-euro annual public transport ticket in ten cities and regions. Losses in revenue would be compensated for the period in which a ticket costs the equivalent of just one euro per day.
Mayor Barbara Ludwig said today: "Precisely because Chemnitz is currently still cut off from long-distance transport, a functioning public transport system with stable connections to the region is essential and necessary. The opportunity to convince as many citizens as possible to switch to public transport in a pilot scheme is a forward-looking and sensible policy." We will not let this opportunity pass us by, continued the Lord Mayor.
