City Council work in 2019 in facts and figures

What do the elected representatives actually debate? Citizens of this city can find out for themselves in various ways: with the documents in the citizen information system at www.chemnitz.de, in the public gallery of the city council chamber or by watching the meeting via livestream. Very few people realise how long such a consultation can take.

Here is a brief overview in figures from 2019: in 2019, the City Council held ten public and one non-public meeting. The meeting time - public and non-public deliberations combined - totalled 43 hours and 40 minutes. The shortest deliberation took place in June with 51 minutes, while the longest debate was held on 30 October 2019 with seven hours and 52 minutes. In total, the plenary session for Chemnitz and Chemnitz residents dealt with 199 public and one non-public draft resolution. In the end, the committee adopted 195 public and one non-public proposal from the administration. A total of 63 proposed resolutions (all public) were on the agenda in 2019. A total of 46 motions were adopted and thus issued to the administration.

A total of 30 information proposals were on the agenda this year. There were no urgent decisions by the Lord Mayor. A still significant number - combined with a high workload for the administration as the addressee of the enquiries - is recorded with 677 City Council enquiries submitted.

The ten meetings broadcast this year were watched by a total of around 11,000 viewers, with the meeting on 30 October 2019 attracting the most viewers at around 2,000.
