City council decides on mobile classrooms for special school "Am Zeißigwald"

The Chemnitz City Council has decided to build temporary classrooms at the "Am Zeißigwald" special school. The additional classrooms will be built as a container facility. The facility is a short-term measure against the capacity deficit and is also intended to secure the necessary space requirements within the school district, in particular the Makarenko primary school. The "Am Zeisigwald" school currently uses rooms in the primary school, which can then be made available again to the after-school care centre at the Makarenko primary school, among others.

The advantages of the mobile classrooms are their relative proximity to the main building; in addition, the large rooms can be easily organised according to user requirements and offer good learning conditions. It is important that they are set up in an environment that is familiar to the mentally disabled pupils, as changes of location are difficult for some of the pupils to cope with.

Construction as a containerised facility has several advantages: The containers come largely prefabricated and can therefore be set up quickly, are variable in layout and can also be moved to a different location if necessary. The city of Chemnitz has already had good experiences with the so-called "mobile classrooms" at the secondary school at the airport and at the Altendorf primary school.

The city of Chemnitz is investing a total of around 1.345 million euros in the facility, which is due to go into operation after the 2020 summer holidays.
