Chemnitz's birdlife throughout the year - observe, recognise, protect
Lecture on 14 January, 7 p.m., at the adult education centre
The adult education centre invites you to a lecture on the diversity of birds in the Chemnitz region on Tuesday, 14 January 2020 at 7 pm. Jens Börner from the Sächsischer Ornithologen e. V. association will give an in-depth overview of the bird species that live and breed here. The event will take place in the TIETZ event hall. Admission is free.
Over 130 different species of breeding birds have been counted in Chemnitz. Including winter visitors and migratory birds, a good 200 bird species can be observed. However, their numbers are dwindling and some breeding bird species are threatened with extinction in the region. They no longer find enough food or suitable breeding sites. The Chemnitz region is experiencing a rapid loss of animals and plants. Where there are fewer insects, birds are also endangered.
The speaker is particularly keen to explain the causes of the decline in breeding birds. In a picture presentation, you will learn about a large part of the local biodiversity. You will learn in an impressive way where and when you can observe different birds. You will also be given concrete suggestions for the sustainable protection of their habitats.
Jens Börner has been active in ornithology and nature conservation for over four decades. His lecture marks the start of a series of events on environmental and nature conservation at the VHS this year.
