Chemnitz Museum of Natural History reopens
From Monday, 11 May, the exhibitions at the Museum für Naturkunde Chemnitz in Tietz and at the "Window into Earth History" will reopen. Visitors can look forward to futuristic objects created in the Mitmach_X "Petrified Forest, Petrified World" project workshop.
In collaboration with the city laboratory "Mitmach_X", children and young people aged between 10 and 14 worked on the question of what future scientists would find if our world fossilised tomorrow. Under the guidance of museum educator Isabelle Ehle, they explored unique Chemnitz fossils during the winter holidays. The children and young people worked out conditions that are particularly crucial on the way to becoming a fossil. The creative realisation of the ideas of their "fossilised world" resulted in models and object stories, which can be seen from 11 May in the special exhibition "My Museum of Dreams". One of a total of eight models will serve as an example of the enthusiasm and correctness with which the participants worked on the utopian question: "The WX-78 is so far the only fossil we have found. We believe that it feeds on cogwheels. We found a mechanical horse in its vicinity: it had everything a mechanical horse needs - except its gears. Now many people are wondering what this robot, or more precisely WX-78, has to do with me. WX-78 is one of the characters from the scary game "Don't starve". But you can still ask yourself why I chose the game "Don't starve". And that's relatively easy to answer: I'm currently playing it with my dad and it symbolises my passion for gaming here." (Nelson Storz, 13 years old)
With the support of the European Social Fund, the programmes at the "Window into the Earth's History" can also be continued. Information at https://www.grabungsteam-chemnitz.de/
